Biography of DJ Buck

It takes a big man to admit that Buck has had a hand in his success. DJ Buck credits luck as a main component in his personal success story ; the other predominant ingredient is talent.

Buck was born in New York in a year that shall remain a mystery. At the age of eleven, he was transplanted to the West Coast and years later, played an instrumental role in the birth of San Francisco's house music scene. As an original member of Third Floor Productions alongside DJ Rasoul and B. McCarthy, Buck helped to build the now thriving infrastructure from the ground up. As an industry veteran, Buck has known Doc Martin, co-owner of L.A. staple Wax Records, for years.

Upon making his transition from Northern to Southern California in 2001, it seemed only natural for him to supply a missing link in the rapidly growing multi-faceted venture that Wax encompasses. Along with Doc Martin, Juan Nuņez, 'Little' Chris Pocino and Tony Watson, Buck is representing a group that is attempting to set the standard for quality house music in Los Angeles.

From Amsterdam to Beijing to Jakarta, from The Hacienda to Ministry of Sound to Fabric, it is likely that Buck has accumulated his fair share of Sky Miles. More importantly, his talents and accolades are enabling him to be a part of the dance music scene worldwide. Perhaps the bedrock of Buck's success is built on his level of comfort behind the decks and naturally, his desire to make great music to be played. Only the man himself will ever know. At some point in the future, those outside the realm of dance music may also be enlightened .

Comment: This is a great set. The sound quality is superior to most other mixes available on the web, as is the quality of the mixing and programming. Typically this would be a bit too "full frontal" House for me (I prefer his earlier stuff from the mid-nineties), but the organic nature of his groovy House sucked me in. It reminds me of old Idjut Boys at moments, although a bit more tribal.

Comment: Not quite sure where I stand with this one, I have a few DJ Buck records and was expecting this set to be along those lines. I have to agree with michaelco in that maybe his style has changed from the mid 90's, as it's not as raw-edged as I would have liked. Oh well, every day is a school day.
