Biography of Cosmo

COSMO is not only a DJ and a performer, but he is also a songwriter, a producer, and an engineer. COSMO's career got started at the ripe old age of 15 when he got work running lights in South Beach at nightclubs such as The Kitchen Club, Club Nu, Stringfellows, and Red Room. He eventually moved to becoming a DJ and became a resident DJ at Marsbar. This was all happening in the early 1990s, which, as we all know, was an integral time for both alternative and techno music.

Cut to COSMO, 1994, when he was asked to become the final member of the rock band Muse (Lava/Atlantic records). The band toured the US and Canada three times over with such artists as Collective Soul, Luscious Jackson, Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr, Live, Silverchair, Beck, and 311. DJ COSMO wasn't even 21 yet, and already he was doing extremely well.

In 1999, COSMO left Muse to join Astralwerks recording artists, Metrodub, in Miami, Florida. He was getting back to his Miami DJ roots. He became successful immediately, and toured with such artists as Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, and Fat Boy Slim, just to name a few. He worked at such clubs as Liquid, Bar Room, Chili Pepper, and Level, where he was a resident DJ for the first year from its opening. But being a DJ wasn't the only skill COSMO was working on at this time. It was during this period of his career that COSMO was able to work on his skills as a music producer and engineer. He has produced over two-dozen released dance records on multiple labels (Universal, Filtered, Neo Records), several of them internationally . With this new fame as a superstar producer and DJ, he was able to play at venues in France, Holland, Great Britain and the US. This was a very busy and exciting time for Cosmo as he was not only a DJ but working as a producer for several indie rock bands.

Nearly two years later, Barry Gibb (Bee Gees) called COSMO and offered him a job as his in-house engineer. COSMO worked with Barry on several projects including the 2005 Barbara Streisand album, which was the final project they did together.

After his time with Barry, COSMO moved to Brooklyn with his newly formed glam/electro group called The Junkies. The Junkies have just completed their second album and are starting to tour at venues all over the world. Cosmo produces all the songs for the band.

Comment: I think Cosmo's emphasis in this set was more on the actual track selections than the mixing (which is not bad by any means). It's a good thing too, because there are some killer tracks in this mix. If you have not heard the Van She remix of Dragonette's "I Get Around," that should be reason enough to download this mix. It is one I have been listening to a lot recently.
