Biography of Andy James
Inspired by earlier electronic groups like Kraftwerk, New Order, Orbital, The Shamen, 808 State, and Underworld, Andy James first started going to parties in 1998. Some of the DJs he saw that year included Adam Beyer, Marco Carola, Joel Mull, Christian Smith, Cari Lekebusch and Claude Young. At the time he had no idea who they were, but the records they were playing and the way they were mixing them definitely had an impact on him. Techno was infused in his blood and he needed a release. Andy started spinning records in 1999 and hasn't looked back since.
Always known for rocking the hard and funky techno beats, Andy has risen to become one of the Midwests hardest working techno DJs. In 1999, after only spinning for 6 months, he competed and placed second out of eight DJs at the Atomic Battle of the DJs held at the Metropol, Pittsburghs largest club at the time - 800 people were in attendance for the finals! Some of the DJs/Producers Andy has played alongside are Stacey Pullen, Frankie Bones, T-1000, Chris Liberator, Nigel Richards, Barry Weaver, David Hollands, The Attack People, Shawn Rudiman, and Dan Curtin amongst others. He has played/headlined at various weeklies, club events, parties, and radio shows in and around Ohio, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Austin, San Antonio, Edmonton, and various other cities around the East Coast & Midwest. With his 17 released mixes, Andy has caused a serious buzz around the global techno community. Andy's fast-paced mixing skills and unique technical style on 3 decks have allowed his DJ schedule to grow by the minute.
Andy's talents extend far beyond the turntables as he has been producing original techno tracks since 2000. His earlier productions as Moonplastic gained acclaim in 2001 when he self-released 100 copies of his first white label to selected DJs, producers, and labels around the global techno community. He has spent the last couple of years in the studio refining his craft and writing dancefloor techno bombs. Just like Andy's DJ sets, his tracks are best described as peak time, floor-shaking, fist-pumping, and always funky techno with sweeping breakdowns and cleverly programmed loops and beats. Keep on the lookout for original tracks and collaborations to be released on BerettaMusic, Polarized, and on his forthcoming label Soniktexture in 2007.
