Biography of Kid Circus
Kid Circus is a purveyor of the funkiest electro, house and breaks, a man who surfaces for brief periods to fire up the dancefloor and then disappears into the night.
Kid has made a name for himself as a DJ with eclectic taste, with sets that can take in funky house, disco, electro, breaks and a sprinkling of his own re-edits. It's a style that has endeared him to every crowd he plays to, and one that has allowed him to set himself apart from those DJs content to plough the one route style of Djing.
'Because I come from a background of mixing up different styles when I first started to take DJing seriously, I still apply the same approach to my sets today. Essentially, I get bored easily! There's good and bad in every genre/sub-genre, so I always try to hunt down the good stuff!'
They say the best route to building up your confidence and skills as a DJ is to start with a friends house party, and that?s exactly how Kids entry into DJing began (and ended with him being one of the few people left standing, playing to an audience largely composed of beer cans).
At that time, he was a deep house and drum & bass man. After returning from a holiday in Barcelona (where he managed to blag his first 'international' gig!), he decided he wanted to experience another country's clubbing scene. He hotfooted it to Amsterdam, where he stayed for several months playing at a number of parties and clubs including the Escape and the former Roxy club.
After taking himself off to Los Angeles, and securing further bookings (including Johnny Depps Viper Room), he returned to the UK and decided to take a break. On his return to DJ action, Kid started assembling an altogether different musical arsenal. Gone was the drum & bass and deep house of old, and in came a firing mix of old skool hip hop, latin, house and breaks.
Having successfully promoted a number of parties with friends under the name Move Productions, Kid bagged himself a slot at Smokey Beats when they moved from their previous home at the former Home club to 93 feet east. His set went down so well that he enjoyed a two year residency at the venue. Having played again for Smokey Beats at the party of parties at 333/Mother, word got to Renaissance who on hearing a mini disc (remember those?) booked him to play at The Cross. Since that first dynamite set blew the roof off, Renaissance have been asking Kid back to rock the intimate arch ever since, with head honcho Geoff Oakes continually singing his praises for his marathon Mr Scruff-length sets. Kid continues to play for Smokey Beats and 1gnitions Night Flight parties, along with Deranged & Demented and the burgeoning Digisole Records imprint among others.
He has shared the bill with the likes of Sander Kleinenberg, Tom Middleton (Cosmos), Martin Ten Velden, James Zabiela, Aldrin, The Dub Pistols Sound System, Mark Wilkinson (Dab Hands/Kidology), Hernan Catteneo, Chus & Ceballos, Dave Seaman, Jo Jo De Freq, The Loose Cannons, Bill Brewster, Chicken Lips, Eric Prydz, Pete Gooding (Cafe Mambo), Tom Stephan (Superchumbo), James Holden, Frank Tope (Rooty), Paul Jackson, King Unique, Paolo Mojo, Greame Park, Maxi Jazz & Sister Bliss (Faithless) and Hybrid.
It's always good when the Circus is in town.
