Biography of Sebastian Russell
Sebastian Russell is amongst the most eccentric and original electronic dance producers around. Seb's live shows have an outstanding appeal for intensity of grooves and sound variety, taking the listener on some adventurous trips and unpredictable turns. His instantly grooving house is blended of different styles, ranging from funk and hip hop to rock and concrete music and it often presents a humorous attitude by using funny vocal samples and quirky sounds. His unique styles comes from a very spontaneous and free-minded approach to electronic music, which can mainly find explanation is his musical roots. Before falling in love with electronics, Sebastian's life gravitated around rock, jazz and funk, while his frequent moving between exposed him to experience and absorb different sonic cultures. In 2003, after a fourteen year experience as guitarist, Seb entered into the world of electronic music making, by accepting an invitation to compose the music for a dance stage performance. Further knowledge and electronic inspiration then came from artists like Aoki Takamasa, Prefuse 73, Matthew Dear and Radiq. In 2004, as he moved to on a stable basis, he decided that his main free time activity was to make a new track every day. So he did, as sound imagination and instinct to improvisation are among Sebastian's most exceptional qualities. Getting quickly in close contact with the underground techno scene in, alongside with releasing on net labels such as After-Dinner and Minlove, he began performing live for electronic music events like Multivitamis and What Happened, opening to international acts like Cabane, Luomo, Krikor, Spektrum and Capitol K. More recently, he also performed alongside Bruno Pronsato, Radiq and Matthew Dear at Nouveau Casino, for the Telegraph label showcase. In 2006, after releasing on Multivitamins, Sebastian's music was spotted by Telegraph Label boss Alex Petit, who signed the artist for a series of EPs. There is more to come in Sebastian's 2006, including a further release on Multivitamins, a third EP on Telegraph and a track for av/a complication on the German Milnormodern imprint.
