Biography of Curtis Maranda

My first contact with underground electronic music was through a friend at York University in Toronto. I studied music and education. The music side of things was great because it allowed me to go from being a computer moron (which I still am in many ways!), to being able to do what I do now. Aside from studying digital recording and editing, I was also able to study Indonesian Music, Jazz, Tuvan Throat Singing, and Overtone Singing. While car-packing through Australia I learned the didgeridoo. I have intergrated the didge, and a live vocalist, Renee Cross, into my performances.

My influences are all over the place. My favourite electronic artists are constantly changing but include the following; Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, Technasia, Meat Beat Manifesto, Luke Slater, Carl Cox, Amon Tobin, DJ Internal, Anne Savage, the Bedrock label, and so many more.

Other influences include: David Bowie, Thelonious Monk, Bjork, Jimi Hendrix, Gratefull Dead, Neil Young, De la Soul, Porno for Pyros, and others.

Comment: I checked this out without having heard of this guy before. I was more impressed than I expected to be. The mixing is clear and smooth; the track selection is sensible and appropriate. I would classify this more as classic deep techno than dub techno, but the lines between genres are subjective and hazy at best. This mix is quality.
