Biography of Skratch Bastid

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada is home to Scott Storch, super-producer, and a fellow named Paul Murphy, aka Skratch Bastid.

This is about the second chappie, a nerdy kid obsessed over hip-hop, he started saving his pennies, mowing lawns, bought a DJ set-up some years back. He learned how to from the local DJs, but ended up moving beyond their lessons to become a battle DJ. He became regional champ in the DMC and ITF competitions, and in 2001 he got second place at Scribble Jam in Cincinnati – resulting in an invitation to join the highly respected “1200 Hobos” crew, consisting of Mr. Dibbs, Dj Signify,Dj Abilities, JEL, Buck 65 and Sixtoo.

In 2003, Skratch Bastid placed second in the Toronto DMC battle, and in Montreal he competed in the National DMC Championship, getting fourth place. Back to Scribble Jam in August, this time he took first place. Returning to Scribble Jam in 2004, he took first place again, rocking the mullet wig and skratchin' up Justin Timberlake.

2005 saw the release of an album with John Smith and Pip Skid, entitled 'Taking Care Of Business.'

Comment: I was a little disappointed with this. Unfamiliar with the Bastid, and based on his name I thought there would be more cutting/scratching...more along the lines of the Mixmaster Mike set but it wasn't. Just didn't have the energy. Still very good blends and a nice selection of Biggie and Nas.
