Biography of Tom Pooks
Born into a multicultural family with Spanish, Italian and French origins, it was clear that Tom Pooks would not play into the present day desire to classify electronic music. Resolutely determined to feed sound with human soul, Tom’s musical journey began with the group 'sales gosses' in 1995 in Southern France. Curiosity and rave parties provided the burgeoning dj with opportunities to play at rave parties in the south of France.
Born in Montpellier, faithful to his region and desirous of pushing the limits of his imagination, his encounter with Francesco Farfa and Joy Kitikonti in Florence led to the development of his personal style through his work with the ‘Audio Esperando’ label and ‘Metempsicosi’, the Italian agency. Returning to France with a new philosophy and a personally solid musical identity, his popularity grew as he was asked to spin at parties and clubs all over Europe.
His special blend of electronica, a fusion of the sexy and sensual with techhouse and Hypnotic layers was further strengthened by his work with the Spanish label ‘Serial Killers’which hailed the beginning of a durable and fruitful collaboration. Parallel to this, he also joined Scandium, a label through which he released a maxi single composed in partnership with Joy Kitikonti and representative of the profoundly deep, richly layered erotic style which was to become one of the pillars of Tom Pooks’sound.
Joining Eukahouse in 2001, he released three other productions within the year: in the summer, in October and in November. Jack de Marseille remixed one of these singles also released on Eukahouse.
The success of another EP with Scandium with a decidedly techno bent led to collaboration with additional labels such as Goodlife, G Funk and Intensive.
Powerful and fragile, his music seduces the public infusing warmth into minimal notes, flirting with feeling, enhancing profound undertones with playful psychic energy. Dedicated to the primitive worth of music: a source of intense pleasure, an important part of his activities is devoted to travelling and playing at parties and events worldwide.
Currently Tom Pooks is releasing several singles on Terminal M, Serial, Hypnotic, Hypnotec and Ovum.
He is also in great demand around the world being invited to play in Latin America, in the UK and in Continental Europe. His growing popularity is bringing him residencies planet wide.
Being true to his home, Tom was resident for ‘La Villa Rouge’ in Montpellier, known for the numerous talented artists having left their echoes on its turntables….he starts his own label : MOOVMENT in assotiation with Alex Millan ; the first release is in middle september with two tracs : charlie and sweet november ; the name of this release is : Naissance ... The new release on Josh Wink's label : OVUM , score his capacity to create different kind of music , this ep minimal and acid with an edit from josh , drive crazy all people on the dance floor and gave him more producers respect . He released another mix Cd in summer 2005 : MIXTYCAL SESSION , minimal mental and evoluting , this mix is dance floor and dedicated to the people who like underground stuff ! A new colaboration with Joy Kitikonti is on way , and this gave us another boost , they are on release , look for them ... ( LINKS / AAA) In addition of these release , Tom is now releasing with the famous Carl cox : INTEC , this really big new tune gave him a possibility to create now very huge track on Neuton Music then the other famous group Kompakt and SPEICHER released his number 37 with Tom on 2 sides !! ! ! which is not usable as the use to release one side / artist ... this is made at the end of september 2006 with a SPEICHER 40 and a TOM POOKS & JON DALBACK release . 2006 /2007 is arriving with many release and amazing electronic creation , keep in french touch ...
