Biography of Pier Bucci

Labels:Crosstown Rebels, Cadenza, Lofi-Stereo, Peacefrog

Having been 7 years since he began his career as a producer with a spot on the Austral compilation from the Chilean label Ruta 5, Pier Bucci has not stopped popping up on different European labels. Off the strength of collaborations with his brother Andres with whom he released the *bucci* EP in 2003, with Argenis Brito on the Mambotur project, with Daniel Nieto on the Skipsapiens project (on the bill for the Experience 3 program), and his partnership with Luciano on the Monne Automne project…or simply solo, Pier Bucci has solidified himself as one of the new leading figures within the shifting Chilean electronic scene. His MUTEK presentation consists of an elegant and personal blend of rhythms and melodies, with a Latin twist and an infusion of German efficiency.

Pier Bucci is already something of a legend. Much has been written about the recent emergence of Chile as an unexpected source of cutting edge electronica. Bucci, and fellow countrymen Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano are producing some of the finest and most original electronic music in the world at the moment. This Chilean trio are writing a new chapter of dance music, splicing traditional South American melody and rhythm with conventional electronic music to create an infectious hybrid that gets right under the skin. Pier Bucci has previously recorded with Argenis Brito as Mambotur (Multicolour recordings), with Argenis and Luciano as Monne Autonme (Lo-Fi Stereo), and he co-produced last year's Lucien-Nluciano album 'Blind Behaviour' (Peacefrog), but it's with Crosstown Rebels he has branched out as a solo artist and decided to work under his own name.

Two critically acclaimed EP's already released with the Rebels, 'Cinetico Andino' and 'Advanced Romance' have both set the tone. Pier Bucci's debut album was always going to be something special but nothing has prepared people for this. 'Familia' is a masterpiece from an artist at the very top of his game. Presented as a seamless piece of music, these 10 tracks overflow with the kind of harmonies and rhythms that make 'Familia' such a unique and trippy proposition. The perfect balance of headphone sensibility and dancefloor abandon, it sounds like nothing else on the planet. Recorded in Berlin and Paris, all tracks are new and exclusive. The haunting vocals on 'L'Nuit' and 'Tita' are by Armelle Pioline, who has recorded with Atom Heart, and Macha who contributes vocals to 'Hay Consuello'. Early reactions to 'Familia' have been electric.
Pier Bucci has clearly established himself as one of the most exciting propositions in electronic music.

Comment: A rare live PA from Pier. I got to see him live at DEMF 07 and I have to say he was one of my personal favs. This set is a typical Pier blend of minimal techy beats. It has its moments where you are drawn in, but there are parts that are kind of blah. Sets from him are rare, so give this a try if you are a minimal/tech-house type of person.
