Biography of Whoa-B

DJ from Chicago and a member of the Brüt Force Family.

I know they ain't ready! Rewind ten years… Venturing into the notoriously shady Chicago party scene, this young man named B discovered straight-up house music, down-and-dirty drum & bass, and later the eclectic perfection of uk garage. These new sounds sparked a fanaticism coupled with a desire to produce them. He made his humble public debut on December 31st, 1999 at Future Forces' 'Countdown To Millennium', pulling off a live PA with nothing but a sampler and a drum machine plugged into a guitar distortion pedal.

The next few years would see Whoa-B collect many recordings of drum & bass, hip hop, and garage music. His beat-matching and mixing skills would be honed as his break-editing and sampling style developed. The drum machine and sampler would become his musical instruments of choice. He would play his music at house parties and make guest appearances at Subside hosted by DJ Basic. He would also take his rig on the road, performing with Speakeasy MC, Planet Whitey, and Dreamcore.

It wasn't until the resurgence of garage in its grimey mc-driven form that Whoa-B got serious about his DJ act. In 2004 he recorded a comprehensive mix of grime, breakbeat, two-step, and 4x4 (plus a hip hop acapella and a few mash ups for good measure) entitled “Crank Up Yo Speakaz”, which earned him a spot alongside Sushi and the Brüt Force Family. He now finds himself a frequent guest on Brüt Force's internet broadcast Reload Radio and weekly club event Hangover. Whoa-B looks forward to sharing the ever-evolving sounds of garage with appreciative ears and will continue to explore the many ways in which it may be mashed up!
