Biography of Wicked E
DJ Wicked E. (Marschmellows) There should be no boundaries between playing records and producing, has always been DJ Wicked E.s philosophy. The Breakbeats half of Marschmellows Jörg Wicked E. Rosenbaum started more 17 years ago, back in 1989, teaming up with Thilo der kraft Kraft in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The DJ-duo Marschmellows was then born to become one of the leading influences on the growing European TripHop / Dub / NuJazz-scene. Some years and many gigs and hits later, Jörg and Thilo realised that their musical taste was taking different directions. In the beginning of 2004 the DJ-duo decided to pursue separate careers: Thilo chose to go for Minimal House while Jörg found his devotion for Breakbeats. Both still perform under the name Marschmellows, proving their friendship and eclecticism from the old days still remain. Jörg Wicked E. Rosenbaums interest on Breakbeats flourished at the beginning of the Marschmellows, when Dub, Hip Hop and Jazz Scene were strong influences. With the first wave of the UK Big Beat he found himself totally into Beats. 2002 was the year of Jörgs first solo-remix: Basstard, of Copenhagen-based beatfreak Ben Horn. Still under the motto of no boundaries, DJ Wicked E. continued his studio work with old friend and Marschmellows producer Roland Hackl (Aromabar / Telemark / Vienna Scientists) at I/O Studios Vienna, in Austria. Their main production is the smashing remix of MT Heads Yayaya, let me show them, which has been released as a Promo-12 on the Hearse Company/UK. DJs and club crowds are still digging it. Kathmandu is Wicked E.s own production, a rolling breaks-and-bass-styler which is travelling all around the world in the UDG cases of the most important Breaks-DJs on Earth. Wicked E.s is constantly on tour and stage collaborations include UK rappers MC Sirreals (Dub Pistols / Freestylers) and Bad Manners. The DJ / MC pleasure both Wicked E. and MC Sirreal transmit is contagious to such an extent that an album was the only natural way. The Funk-Supreme compilation is a promising combination of Wicked E.s DJ mixing skills and MC Sirreals raps and lyrics. The finest and funkiest sum of a club night with the duo to be released soon. In addititon to his DJ and production work, Wicked E. also runs his own label and Frankfurt-based DJ-booking agency Gene Poole (www.genepoole.de) together with his partner Christian Floeck. Rosenbaum has undoubtedly become one of the main references in Beats and Breaks based club music nowadays, whether youre talking about Downbeat, Funky Breakbeats, Nuskool Breaks or any other intermediary Hip Hop-based style.
