Biography of Maarten Schippers
Name: Maarten Schippers
Lives: Groningen, The Netherlands
Born: A small village in the North of Holland
When: March 10 1978
Like many other DJs, Maarten's interest in music started when he was really young. As a kid he was always playing around with his tape decks and he always was putting his favorite songs together. When he was about 12 his interest in house and dance music started. He started to buy his first house/dance CD's and started listening to dance radio programs. He especially became interested in the way the tracks were mixed together by the DJs!
In the next years his love for house music grew and he started to visit some house parties/raves. At the age of 15 or 16 Maarten bought his first turntables and records. When Maarten started playing he mainly played 'Dutch Hardcore' (now Oldschool). Maarten started to play at some small local parties and attended some DJ contests, but after about two and a half years he started to loose his interest in this style of music and it was then when he decided to stop playing.
Maarten didn't play for a few years, but in the meantime he discovered trance music and it didn't take long before he wanted to start playing again. He bought new turntables and started to buy records again.
Maarten played trance music for about 3,5 years and over the past years he slowly moved from trance to progressive trance to progressive house, electro house and minimal house. It didn't take long before Maarten started to perform at parties again. Currently he frequently plays at local parties and internet radio stations. He is resident and co-organizer/promotor of the Silver City parties in his home-town Groningen, where some of the best (inter)nationally known progressive DJs such as Lemon8, Remy, Fred Numf and Matthew DeKay have performed. For Silver City Maarten also co-hosts a bi-weekly 4 hour progressive show at internet radio station Nautic Radio.
Recently Maarten started to get interested in producing and has bought his first producing hard- and software, so we might hear some of his own productions in the near future!
