Biography of Boogieburgers

'Boogieburg' is not only a reference to Blacksburg, Virginia in the United States, it also refers to the general idea that no matter where you live, as long as music is there that moves you, there is always something to boogie about.

Current DJs

DRU LE CUE

A fast-rising name in American hardcore, Dru le Cue has been featured at hardcore raves all over the east coast and midwest. Having played both hardcore and dnb for the past few years, Dru's sets succeed in bringing the two genres back together, using the best elements from each to rock the dancefloor. Be prepared for mayhem, bliss, and a lot of just plain rocking out!

GREGORY MALCOLM

Gregory Malcolm regularly performs around the city of Toronto, Canada (606, Tangerine, Bauhaus, Gypsey Co-op, the Betty Ford Temple, NASA, and Waterside Club). This DJ conveys his passion for house music every time he's behind the decks. Co-Founder of Open House Music (OHM), Gregory Malcolm has carved a niche in Toronto's House community by organizing events that transform intimate lounges into bangin parties through upgraded sound and careful placement of intelligent visuals. OHM's promotion style gives way to a party that peeks everyone's interests. During his stay in Blacksburg, Virginia as a Human Factors Industrial Engineering PhD candidate at Virginia Tech, Gregory Malcolm has held residencies at Nerv club, Burrus Square, and promotes one-off parties at various clubs around the area.

MIKE LOVE

Michael Love has been intimately involved with the Blacksburg scene since early 1999, though it wasn't until the winter of 2000-2001 that he discovered the new style of 'nu skool breaks' music emerging from the UK, which was to be the sound that would define him as a DJ. It was also around this time that he co-founded the KGB, which swiftly became the area's preeminent drum 'n' bass/breakbeat DJ collective. Since that time he has appeared on lineups with such various figures as Florida's Sharaz and Atlanta's Faust and Shortee, and has rocked soundsystems in all of Blacksburg's major venues.

Mike plays driving, bass-heavy breaks tunes with influences from early-90's hardcore rave music, drum 'n' bass, reggae, and hip hop. His latest mix, 'Kihon 1,' recorded in July 2005, stands as an example of the current sound of Blacksburg's one and only breaks DJ.

THE LEMUR

Mike Reich aka The Lemur was born on Zarooll 5. After traveling to five inhabited galaxies he decided to settle down on planet earth. He laid low during his first 500 years and emerged in the late 20th century in Blacksburg, VA. Not content with mainstream music he focused on drum and bass. He spins at parties in Blacksburg once every two or three years. His favorite drink is '24oz PBR' which just so happens to be the self destruct sequence for Air Force 1.
