Biography of DJ Alias

I am not a DJ. I have no records. I haven't bought a CD in years. I depend on college radio for my music listening needs. There is some excellent hip hop on Toronto radio just so long as you know when to listen and what to listen to. I have this down to a science now.

I do like 'ear-wax drippin funk' and 'bring that beat back Mr. DJ'. I used to think this didn't exist on the radio. I do not like 'gansta pimpin sittin on 22s' or 'murda hoes murda bitches murda murda murda', your typical urban radio station's favourite. I do like Run DMC, Roxanne Shante, De La Soul, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane. I do not like G-Unit, Juelz Santana, Three Six Mafia, Dipset. I do like emcees and deejays. I do not like rappers and beatmakers. Some of the stuff I don't like is good in small doses. But no more than that.

I record the radio with my PC. The quality is superb. By 'quality', I mean content. By 'quality', I also mean sound fidelity. I have several dozen hours (somewhere near two hundred) of Toronto college radio hip hop, going back to 2004. I still record about five hours per week. This will be my outlet to share to the world the music I love.

Golden era hip hop, old school gems, funky beats, breaks and grooves. All from Toronto college radio in mixtape format, 20 mins to 60 mins per set. I do this for fun and because I know of no other sites doing anything similar. I have nothing to do with any of these radio shows except as a loyal fan. Everything is provided by the DJs and their shows, and all thanks and respect go to them. I do nothing but help spread them.

CKLN is a Canadian campus-community radio station, owned by CKLN Radio, Inc. and operating out of Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario. It broadcasts at 88.1 on the FM dial. CKLN was licensed by the CRTC in 1983. Ryerson had surrendered its earlier radio station, CJRT-FM, due to financial constraints, although that station was revived by the government of Bill Davis as an independent public radio station. CKLN is one of Toronto's most respected radio stations in any format, frequently being named as a listener favourite in magazine and newspaper polls. Unlike most campus-situated radio stations in Canada, CKLN is not owned by the hosting institution. Although some of its funding is provided by the Ryerson Students' Union, it is an independent organization separate from Ryerson University.
