Biography of DJ Kirill Sergeew
Was born in 1985, Saint-Petersburg, Russia. At age of 5 parents gave him to the musical school, where he studied classical piano. In 1997 he started to have interest in another kind of music, when he lost his head after listening “Surfer Rosa” by The Pixies. He also started to make compilations on cd-r’s with music that he love and present this music to his classmates. Same year he start to study guitar himself and in 2001 he formed his first band Better Than Youth, which sounds like Nirvana. Then in 2003 this band has grown into Naked Lunch with a girl on a vocals. Naked Lunch was influenced by music like Sonic Youth, Jesus and Mary Chain, Hole, The Stooges and many more. After they split in 2004 he started to write music himself, using electronic instruments. After unsuccessful start of solo carrier with name Uniquetune in 2005, he decided to invite his friends on bass, guitar and saxophone from the University of Culture and Arts, where he study himself in a jazz faculty. After first live show with name Uniquetune’s Live Project, band influenced by Cinematic Orchestra, Jaga Jazzist and Herbaliser started to call themselves Uniquetunes. Along with playing in a band Kirill worked on his own material, using style of dj-cutting influenced by Dj Shadow, Dj Vadim, Coldcut and Mr.Scruff. Summer 2006 he started to release this material, first EP was out on 23 july at Japanese net-label Bump Foot. Then one more EP and a single on this label, and two mixes “Modern Classiques” volumes 1 & 2 at Sonic Walker (Holland) and Zerinnerung (Germany). As a DJ Kirill plays lovely material, including artists from his native country, funk, classical and nu jazz, house, hip-hop, trip-hop, much downtempo, 70th rock, pop and many more. His live set using vinyl and cd, including scratches and fx-effects.
