In 1993, Techno found Inyoung in the form of a mixed tape. Before then, Inyoung had only been exposed to “commercial” Techno and the style of the tape had caught him off guard. The music on the tape was completely raw and it quickly began to grow on him. He started going to underground Techno parties and in 1994, Inyoung heard Hardcore for the first time. At that moment he knew that was “IT”. He had never heard any music like Hardcore before. It had the crowd going nuts and the atmosphere was reminiscent of Punk.
Although he grew up on Hip Hop, the energy of Hardcore was too captivating and Inyoung started saving up for cheap turntables. At first, he only listened to records on his turntables, but after a short time he got into mixing. The more he got into it the more he realized that a lot of Hardcore DJ's were not as technically sharp as he originally thought. So, he decided to release mixed tapes of his own and flooded the underground with them. He started spinning at a few parties and hooked up with a few different crews and after a few years he left the party scene and went off to focus on producing, starting off on tracker but eventually buying equipment. He was producing on and off for awhile and after releasing several records, he took a break.
In late 2003, Inyoung made the choice to go full force with his production. One can only play & critique other people’s tracks for so long before someone says, “If you think you can do better, why don’t you do something about it?” Inyoung knew he could do better and since then has remained focused on pushing his sound to its boundaries and making a mark for Los Angeles Hardcore, worldwide.
The DJ is the middleman between the music and the crowd. He is there playing the music that they love and sharing that musical experience with others. A good DJ will keep a certain rhythm of energy in their set. Once you get the crowd moving, a DJ will usually become more hyped. Once a DJ can match beats, there is a next level to obtain. If they don't try to reach this, then that DJ won't sound any different from the others who can match beats. I think that is what separates the good DJ's from the average ones. They understand how to keep their set always rocking.
