Biography of James Lauer
James Lauer has grown to become a major force in the worldwide underground house community and continues to steadily prove himself as someone who is dedicated to pushing electronic music forward. His DJ and promotion efforts have consistently earned him bookings at top locations in his hometown of Chicago as well as at larger clubs in locations around the globe. With a style can best be described as a unique combination of deep, dark and uplifting house and techno, James strives to create as fresh and diverse of a musical environment as possible with every set that he plays delivered with the clear goal of moving crowds both inside and out.
Jamess recent tour dates have included major club events in London, Melbourne, Sydney, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and many other locations around the globe. He is regularly selected as the opening DJ of choice for many the worlds biggest electronic artists including Tiësto, John Digweed, Sasha, Steve Lawler, Paul Oakenfold, The Crystal Method, Hernan Cattaneo, Satoshi Tomiie, James Zabiela, Markus Schulz, Sandra Collins, Lee Burridge, Max Graham, Way Out West, Infusion, Chris Fortier, Steve Porter, Derrick Carter, Desyn Masiello, Habersham & Numinous, Christian Cambas and Chris Liebing among many others. James has also been featured several times at some of the largest electronic music events in the world including the United States Love Parade, the Miami Winter Music Conference and Two Tribes Australia.
Growing up in the windy city and raised on a steady diet of Chicago House, James eventually discovered the deeper and darker sides of house music while living in New York and traveling and working abroad in Europe and Australia. Returning to Chicago in 1999, he began throwing regular underground nights and house parties, eventually earning rotating DJ slots and residencies at several of the citys most respected house nights and clubs in the city including Smartbar, Crobar, Sound-Bar, Vision, Zentra, Moda, Big Wig and the W Lakeshore among other locations. In 2002 James began his now widely recognized Diversified Portfolio radio show on WNUR 89.3FM, the same station that he grew up listening to and the former radio home of Derrick Carter, Mark Farina and many of Chicagos other legendary DJs during house musics explosion in the 1980s and 1990s. Currently recognized as the largest non-commercial radio station in the Midwest and one of the largest alternatives to mainstream corporate radio in the United States, WNUR has provided James with an opportunity to express his unique style and showcase a diverse range of house and techno that is rarely heard outside of the club environment in the U.S. His radio show continues to air live every Wednesday night in Chicago and features regular guest mixes from the citys top local DJs as well as live mixes from many of the worlds largest International artists on their way through Chicago. In addition to WNUR, James has been a featured artist and is a regular contributor to large radio outlets around the world including XTC Radio London, Frisky Radio and XM Satellite Radio in the United States. His mixes are typically broadcast several times every day on a number of largest Internet radio stations and can be heard monthly on Proton Radio where he hosts his widely anticipated Chicago Underground Sessions.
