Biography of Fernando Ribeiro
New frontiers, new spaces: Those goals challenge DJ Fernando Ribeiro. Playing downtempo and house, his sets conquer a selected audience, who looks for elaborated sounds and classfull mixes. Fernando had his debut on the turntables in 1998, playing indie pop and 80’s music as Tosco bar’s resident DJ. In 2002 he moved through several music styles, landing on Downtempo and finally on House music.
That same year, he formed the Alternate DJs Project with DJ AC. The Alternate Djs Project performed at many different clubs and introduced many DJs into the local scene with multi-style nights. As the Project’s resident DJ, Fernando fine-tuned his musical sense paving a path with his well-honed technique encompassing Downtempo, House and Deep House.
Fernando has already performed in clubs like Liqüe, Taboo, Nico, Stereo Pub, Amatulah e Beats Club, in Curitiba; Disco Internacional in Foz do Iguaçu, Deseo Lounge Cousine in Camboriú and Jive in São Paulo. He has played with nationally known names such as Raul Aguilera, Aninha, Rafael Araújo, DJ Ban Ban and Ivan Scárparo, from Paraná; Mau Mau, Luiz Pareto, Reano DeVitto, Edground, Wagner J and Wander A, from São Paulo; Robinho, from Minas Gerais and Oliver Jack, from Bahia. In 2005, Fernando spun at a Grooveland Party on invitation by DJ and journalist Edground. He shared decks with house world class DJ Victor Simonelli (NY) and Charles Spencer (San Francisco).
Since then he has become a resident DJ on Discofreaks Deluxe Party, in Foz do Iguaçu, on Nice House, Bangaloo and Bomb the Basement (Curitiba). The last two parties as a promoter. He has played in northwestern Brazil, at the Chemical Music Festival and opened the first OM Records Brazil Tour in Curitiba where he played with Johnny Fiasco (Chicago).
He played lounge style at Fundação Cultural de Curitiba, at the opening of the famous Festival de Teatro in Curitiba and the release party for the magazine ETC, as well as other conventions that opened the doors to gigs in Europe.
In 2005, Fernando started the radio show Periférico, broadcasted live every Wednesday by the German webradio Loud FM (http://www.loud-fm.com), from 7pm. to 9pm. In December of the same year, the Alternate DJs Project started to be presented at the Groovechannel (http://www.groovechannel.com.br), first Brazilian webTV for electronic music, on Mondays, 8pm.
His eclectic style is influenced by the bands he has played with, the music he listens to – electronic or not – and from the DJs he likes the most like Ian Pooley and Dimitri From Paris. His search for new sounds, different views, vocals, and beat variations are Fernando’s domain. Besides music, he also works with arts and performances.
Because of its richness the music that Fernando makes is to be listened to as well as danced to. That is why people look for him to play in modern lounges and cool parties that escape from the clichés of the mass-media electronic music.
DJs Fernando has already played: Ben Johnson (Club Shelter/NY), Johnny Fiasco (Chicago), Victor Simonelli (NY), Charles Spencer (San Francisco), Fred Everything (Canadá), Mike Parsons (UK), Paul Mac (UK), Reano DeVitto (SP), Pabliano (BA), Oliver Jack (BA), DJ Ban Ban (PR), Bamboo Kumbá Live PA.
