Biography of The Vinyl Junk
June 1972, a 18 years old hippy girl gives birth to Michel 'the Vinyl Junk' van den Berg at a very little village at the northern area of Holland. At the age of four, The Vinyl Junk starts playing with his daddy's stereo equipment. Between all the Rock, Hippy and Soul music little Vinyl Junk discovers some records produced by Kraftwerk and Jean Michel Jarre. Little Junk got infected by the sound of synthesizers and drummachines and haves this dream: a studio full of synths and drummachines to create his one tunes. Further on, he lives a normal happy childhood.
The Vinyl Junk, now really infected with Hip Hop, bought his first pair of turntables to become a hip hop/scratch dj at a Hip Hop Crew 'No Licence'. Another member/dancer of this crew is Erkan 'mc Syco' Coscunsu. Also in this year he found out about House. This music was made for turntables... Nobody had to explain the Junk about mixing and scratching records, he just knew what to do. It seems that the Junk has turntabelism in his genes.
After a few years mixing and scratching at his bedroom, the Junk meets Dennis 'DNS' Wissink. DNS invites the Junk to play at one of the party's that DNS organises with some friends. The 'Black Hole Acid Experience' at club Ludus (Enschede, Holland) is the debute party of The Vinyl Junk. This was a great succes and the Junk became a member of this group house maniacs and starts to organise and play at a lot of party's at the eastern area of Holland. Another member of this group is Tom 'Cixx' Colenbrander. The Vinyl Junk and dj Cixx discover that they have a similar taste about music, especially Hardcore House.
The Vinyl Junk becomes a resident dj at the 'Jumbo Dancing' Oldenzaal Holland. This club is one of the largest in Holland at the time. The Vinyl Junk play's music from the Dutch charts, Club and Techno and some Happy Hardcore. The Vinyl Junk and dj Cixx discover that the music they play at party's fits good together, so they decide to form a dj Team with one mc. This was the birth of the 'Cixx dj Team'. The mc at this dj team is mc Syco, an old friend of the Vinyl Junk from the time with 'No License'. The Cixx dj team had a lot of succes in the Eastern part of Holland and in West-Germany. They appeared on a lot of party's, Thunderdome, Night of the Hools, the famous ZAK party's and many more.

Becoming a well-known dj in the Dutch party scene he is the creator of a new hype: Turntablizm. Battling against another dj with four or more decks brings a new era in the hardcore scene. It started of at the Oldschool Madness parties where the Vinyl Junk is a resident and was experimenting with turntablizm in his sets. Wondering how to make dj'ing in this scene more attractive he invited dj Cixx to do a four-deck battle and this was a success! All the tricks and skills really got the attention of the party crowd.' After this battle dj the Viper challenged the Vinyl Junk' The answer of the Vinyl Junk..? 'I'll meet you behind my four deck set-up!' The Viper came and afterwards there was no winner' Both of them had the same skillz' Their styles matched up very good and made this set to a great success! More and more battles took place, not only with the Viper, but also with dj Vince, Nosferatu, Dione, Partyraiser, Bass-d and more higly skilled DJs. Seeing this happening at Oldschool Madness many more promoters copied this battle concept and at this moment it is the hype in the Netherlands. Turntablizm is taking the Hardcore scene to a higher level.
