Biography of Digga
Moving to London from the bucolic environs of New Zealand in 1997, Digga found her eyes wide with the bright lights and exciting nocturnal pulse of the citys dance scene. Soon totally immersed in the capitals underground club culture Marie found herself living in a North London warehouse where the now legendary Outreal Studio parties were held. In a few short months she usurped the decks, and was kicking out the electrofunk jams next to the likes of Barry Ashworth and Lol Hammond. Under Diggas tutelage, the parties cranked out megawatts of word of mouth hype, leading to over 700 revellers regularly transforming the dancefloor into a bacchanalian feast of hedonistic jammin the box electro filth.
As the superclubs found themselves struggling into the new millennium, discerning club-goers headed back underground to more innovative nights across the citys fringes. The nights promoted by Marie at the Light EC1, and West London hotspot the Source were the perfect antidote to the tired, commercial sound emanating from the West End. Pioneering a re-invigorated underground club scene, she discovered a new East End emerging - epicentre of London activity with everyone from artists, hipsters, and die-hard club-heads queuing round the block at venues such as 333 every night of the week. The music that Digga championed was young fresh and new, a chrome-plated, tech-informed electro groove that was like houses evil, twisted little cousin. Digga was spearheading a new movement, a nascent electro house which she represented with the regular Heroine night, with names such as Terry Farley and Nic Fanciulli joining her on the decks.
Not content with merely making a mark in the UK, Marie set her sights further afield. Continental Europe beckoned, and Digga answered, setting French dancefloors aflame with her instinctive command of the robotic boogie razing clubs to the ground in Paris and Chamonix: riots on road and sex in the streets. After six months abroad, Marie felt the calling of her spiritual home in London and headed back, summoned by the call of the tech-disco architecture of the capital that so defined the essence of her sound. Once re-established as queen of the electro-crunk disco, high demand for her sets saw her helming the decks across a wide variety of nights from the Blag Club in Notting Hill to private boat parties on the Thames, and everywhere from the award winning Neighbourhood to the muddy charms of the Glastonbury Festival.
Digga continues to promote and DJ to ever-increasing crowds, which has culminated in highly sought-after sets at the seminal TDK dance festival and the Notting Hill Carnival, playing up against legends such as Justin Robertson, Mylo, Touche and Eddy Temple-Morris. The surrounding buzz has ensured that Marie has become an industry figure, which has lead to positions as Label Manager at cutting-edge independent record label Fume Recordings, and as Copyright Manager at Pollination Music home to such acts as Paul Oakenfold and Spiritualized. As a natural progression of her talents Marie has launched her own production career, and her remixes for skewed Berlin electro outfit Warren Suicide have caught the attention of Fatboy Slim, Laurent Garnier, and Annie Mac to name a few.
