Biography of Argo
Argo's passion for djing began back in the early 90's in NYC while checking out the weekly Giant Step parties, Soul Kitchen, and assorted funky bizniz at S.O.B.'s. Around 1995 in Philly, the hands down favorite party and source of inspiration was Back to Basics. It was at these clubs that Argo was exposed to some of the initial phases of a worldwide improvisational jazz meets dancefloor phenomenon which was to be the major stepping stone for much of the music he plays today.
In 1997, after hooking up with the Philly acid-jazz promoters MilkToast, he opened for various funk/groove bands including Brooklyn's Justice League, Galactic, Jazzyfatnasties, and rocked his turntable skills live with jazz and hip-hop group, Fathead. At Silk City, abstract trip-hop and downtempo jazz set the stage for a weekly party called Dippin' where he dropped records along side of hip-hop icons, Schooly D, and dj Kid Swift. It was around this time that Argo was guesting at Crasta's Nebula parties at Club 1415, Cozmic Cat's Groove Lounge, and had a weekly internet show which was broadcast live on Media Bureau Networks.
2002 saw the creation of Mud People with co-horts Lorne (From Philly With Love) and Edwin (Jakgalt). These were packed underground warehouse parties which took place in an intimate lounge setting but also boasted a massive soundsystem and hopping dancefloor. Video and various multi-media was mixed realtime with live cameras into multiple television sets and projections.
Argo has guested on radio stations WKDU (Philly), WPRB (Princeton, NJ), Dinamo 103.8 FM (Istanbul, Turkey), Metronomic Radio Show (Hamburg, Germany), FutureBoogie Radio (Bristol, UK), Jazz Picante Radio Show (Portugal), Radio NRK in Norway. He's kept residencies at the long running Grass and Soul Samba nights in Philly, Dulce in New Brunswick, and has organized large outdoor summertime events (2000-2002) in both West Philadelphia's Clark Park and Center City Phiadelphia. He has been a recurring guest at Blake's legendary Don't Fake The Funk, Hang Free, NYCs weekly broken beat party Royal Flush at Coz, and Amalgama's Gamma Soul nights in Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has performed live with Xande Cruz & the Batukis and has played along-side of producers such as Goldie, Fauna Flash, Mj Cole, Titonton and Jneiro Jarel and others...
Over the past 3 years, Argo has gained the respect of the global nu-jazz / brokenbeat community through his online mixes on Broke N' Beat Radio and his charts enlighten an audience of music lovers from Chicago, to Hungary... Berlin to Belgium. His site provides streaming music and downloads of the very latest in future underground sounds as well as wide range of genres including house, jazz, soul, funk and bossa.
