Biography of Tom Budden
Hailing from Southampton (UK) Tom Budden is fast gaining a reputation as one of the stand-out DJs of 2006. His tight control behind the decks, coupled with a forward thinking approach to dance music makes him a talent to look out for in the not too distant future.
Toms passion for House music was realised as a teenager in the mid 90s. He developed an addiction to infectious grooves while on the dance floor, listening to DJs like Sasha play at his local club The Manor. Turn the clock forward and that enthusiasm is still there today in his DJing, undiluted and amplified, he is able to make a connection with the crowd in the same way his idols did with him:
Tom doesnt just add to a party he regularly makes it. Everything about him is infectious, from those throbbing basslines that hook you in, to his enthusiastic demeanour behind the decks (Chris King, DJ Mag June 05)
Not wanting to be pigeon-holed Tom has developed broad tastes ranging from deep techy house through to peak time monsters, electrified breaks and hypnotic 6am melodies. Tom is one of a special breed of DJs who can play warm up, end of night, or even start to finish. This versatility has brought him to the attention of several top promoters, earning him a set at Renaissance alongside James Zabiela and King Unique:
The thing that makes Tom such a great DJ (apart from having great taste in music of course) is the fact you can put him on at any time of the night and he'll play accordingly. Whether it's opening the night without smashing all the big records or finishing the party and keeping control of the dancefloor, he's more than capable of both.' (James Zabiela).
Tom is a hard working dance music fanatic. As well as several residencies, most notably at London club night Familia at The Key, and also Release in his home town of Southampton, he hosts a monthly radio show called ALiVE on internet based Proton Radio. The show is broadcast on the last Friday of every month and features a mix from Tom and a guest mix. He also promotes his own ALiVE party in Southampton, which runs in conjunction with the High Tide bank holiday boat parties and has seen him play alongside Paul Woolford, Meat Katie, Nic Fanciulli, MYNC Project and Lee Burridge to name but a few.
This year Tom's hoping to build on the success of 2005, and also to try his hand at some production. He'll be in the studio later in the year, working on collaborations with Dave Robertson, and with James Zabiela.
