Biography of DJ C

DJ C continues to drop his mashed up mix of hip-hop, bashment, grime, bounce, jungle, rock, folk, bhangra, dub-step and just about everything else at parties, clubs, and events worldwide.

In 2003 he began the Mashit record label with a 12-inch featuring one of his rough-and-rugged-ragga tracks along-side an Aaron Spectre remix. It sold out within weeks of it?s release. The next 5 Mashit 12-inches also featured DJ C material, and they've been killing dance-floors and airwaves across the globe. Legendary BBC Radio One host John Peel (R.I.P.) chose Mashit as a 'label of the month' in October 2004. The records have also been receiving airplay on other BBC shows, in addition to shows on London's Resonance FM, and Ninja Tune's syndicated Solid Steel show.

He's been hard at work producing beats and remixes for other labels as well. His mix of the M.I.A. tune U.R.A.Q.T., was released on her Galang '05 single by XL Recordings, and his mixes of the tune Gone A Jail, by reggae legend Gregory Isaacs, were recently released on Kid 606?s Tigerbeat6 sub-label Shockout. That 12' also contains mixes by Kranky recording artist Strategy, and Kid606 himself. DJ C's first Shockout production was on the 12-inch release of the Wayne Lonesome tune Come Back Wicked, along-side mixes by Timeblind and Ove Naxx. He's also been involved in numerous remix projects with artists like DJ /rupture, Hrvatski, Cul de Sac and others. More Shockout mixes are in the works, as well as records for the Community Library, Scandal Bag, and Cozy Music labels.

London's Scandal Bag record label recently released a DJ C collaboration with British/Jamaican vocalist Quality Diamond. The Let It Billie 7' immediately sold out and was quickly re-pressed, receiving multiple plays on BBC Radio 1 from Steve Lamacq and Rob Da Bank, plus heavy club support from the likes of DJ Yoda ('such a great track'), The Bug ('wicked!') and 100% Dynamite ('it goes down a storm'). Piccadilly Records in London chose Let It Billie as a reggae tune of the week ('it's rough, it's raw, it's just dance-floor dynamite'), and the jungle mix went to #1 on the DMC World Drum & Bass chart.

DJ C has been hosting the weekly Beat Research parties along-side DJ Flack each week in Cambridge, MA for the past couple of years. Now the party has sprouted a new record label branch, also called Beat Research. This Mashit-sister-label embodies a different sound than it's sibling, releasing a broad range of experimental party music, from blunted beats, to dub-hall, to breakment, to Boston bounce.

DJ C is no stranger to the electronic music scene. Back in the '90s he started the Electro Organic Sound System (EOSS). EOSS?s debut CD, Herbanism, was released to critical acclaim, and was followed by two 12-inch EPs ? Roots and Wroller Wreck ? and a second EOSS album; Roots Wreck Remix.

'Fibrous Jungle and post-Orb dub overlaid with grainy electronics.'
-The WIRE magazine, on Roots Wreck Remix
Not content just to make music, DJ C co-founded Boston's Toneburst experimental event production collective along with DJ /rupture and friends in the late '90s. He has also performed at many venues across North America, Europe, Japan, along-side artists like Remark, ?-Ziq, John Medeski, Soundmurderer, The Bug, DJ Spooky, Plasticman, Shinehead, Daddy Freddy, Jason Forest (Donna Summer), Anti Pop Consortium, Vex'd, Peaches, Duran Duran Duran, Chicks on Speed, Bong Ra, and others.

From the Hotaka Mountain Festival in Japan, to the underground clubs of Prague, DJ C continues to rock parties worldwide.
