Biography of Claude VonStroke

”I would like to come over…what are you having for dinner?” asks the creepy character in Claude VonStroke's international hit, “Deep Throat.” After selling through 7 pressings and topping the charts in Germany , Belgium and Italy ; “Deep Throat” quickly put VonStroke on the map as an up and coming force. The success of the single garnered a music video by Anthony Earnest Garth, whose past directorial credits include videos for super-groups like the White Stripes, Eminem, and Slum Village . (The “Deep Throat” video will be released as a bonus feature on Claude's new dirtybird artist album coming out this May, 2006.) Following the success of “Deep Throat,” Claude VonStroke upped the ante even further with a full length album called 'Beware of the Bird.'

Claude VonStroke is better known to locals, as Barclay Crenshaw, the owner of San Francisco 's hottest new avant-house label, dirtybird. The dirtybird label consists of Crenshaw (VonStroke,) fellow producer Justin Martin, and a wide assortment of top remixers from around the globe such as John Tejada, Sammy D, Jesse Rose, and Frankie. In 2005, dirtybird released a series of daring and creative singles that were played by everyone from Ritchie Hawtin to Damian Lazarus and received top marks from all the DJ magazines.

The idea for dirtybird began in 2003 when Barclay was producing an intense 5 hour DVD about electronic music called, “Intellect.” San Francisco newcomer, Justin Martin was hired by Crenshaw to help make house music for the DVD. Barclay quickly recognized Justin's talent and took on a role as his manager, negotiating his first deals with Buzzin'fly, Classic, and Utensil Recordings. The “Intellect” project was a labor of love for Crenshaw, taking almost 2 years to make and starring over 35 top producers and legendary DJs such as Derrick May, Swayzak, Derrick Carter, Deep Dish, Paul Van Dyk, Theo Parish, and many more. The main goal of the “Intellect” project was to make an informative dvd that could help DJs advance their careers in electronic music. The result was Crenshaw himself starting dirtybird records with Justin and a production career under the quirky alias, Claude VonStroke.

In addition to production and label management, Claude VonStroke has an intense regimen for preparation and a great ear for song selection. His DJ sets are always inspiring and surprising. You will never hear a boring bunch of monotonous tracks because just like A&R at dirtybird, Claude always takes time to find the tracks that mean something. Tricky sound effects, nasty bass, inspiring melodies, and up front originals make for a completely original experience that is not to be missed.

Comment: Just a really fun set!!! I'm not really sure why I'm diggin' this guy so much lately, maybe you can figure it out. Techno w/a really dirty electro-house undertone. Look out for the John Tejada mix of "Deep Throat"(not on this set[FYI]) - It's fab'.

Comment: really like his style, sort of minimal bassy tech house, really smooth mix and good pace. he even makes that disgustingly awful fedde le grande track sound pretty good.

Comment: Oh aye, he's a propper good dj/producer. Its a shame 'deep throat' isnt on the mix. To be honest it sounds a bit like the Hot Mix he did on the essentail selection back in the summer. Quality mix, definatly a future hero. :-D

Comment: This is a very good set. For people who said it was a bit slow for them?? Why would you dl a CVS set if you wanted 140bpm's?? I don't get it. The set is kinda slamming for those who are into electro/minimal stuff. I'd recommend it.

Comment: Claude VonStroke is fucking doin' it. This is by far the best promo mix i have gotten in a couple years or so. Unique (This description doesn't do his sound justice) track selection, flawless mixing, endless plays in my car, at the house, walking down the street...Cop this shit before you regret it.

Comment: I must be living under a rock or something because Claude VonStroke is new to me. My first encounter with claude was listening to MPiii radio!!! Yay for MPiii.com!

It's great to hear a DJ that can bring something new. Claude's eccentric blend of house, minimal, and electro blend perfectly together to form one great mix. Highly Recommended :)

Comment: Wow! I have listened to a few of Claude VonStroke's EPs before but this the first mix I have heard. It knocked me off my feet. I love these tracks, especially the Andy Caldwell remix. This mix is definitely one I'll be listening to for a while.

Comment: I thoroughly enjoyed this mix. After reading feedback from others I knew that I'd have to check it out. I was out clubbing earlier this year when I heard a particular tune but haven't heard it since. I found it on this CVS set so that was the main reason for downloading. This is a funkier rather than some of the deep minimal stuff that iIve heard him play therefore anyone who just wants to dance won't have any trouble when listening to this. It's funky but still has the techy sound!!!

Comment: And so it continues! Another impressive Glimpse into minimal techno. I recently foud a copy of "put your hands up for detroit" (Clude vonstroke rmx) originally by fedde le grand. This remix is above all others. I've dropped it and the crowd goes apes@#t. keep His sets comin!

Comment: This is not mix for me. It is definitely interesting with quite original sound, but I was not so impressed as the overall sound was quite similar. I miss more versatile and different moods, but this one was not my cup of tea. Deep electro tech house with slower tempo and focused on listening. I would like to download new house set, but something more different.

Comment: I really like this mix! It's not too hard but just right! It's dirty and funky. It might not make you JUMP UP AND DOWN AND GO CRAZY but it will make you shake your head. Give this mix a try and I think most people will be surprised. I've always liked Claude VonStroke's style!
