Biography of Liz Edwards

I accumulated a number of records from the age of 11, influenced by my mother's love of jazz, soul & funk. My passion for music saw me take my record collection to a summer at Caister and on to 'Dukes' in Chelmsford. Through some reputable agents I got DJ residencies in Norway, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates for monthly and three monthly contracts. Travelling to and working in so many different countries broadenend my experience and added to my confidence, and I learned how to read a difficult and demanding crowd by playing to the armed forces for 6 months too.

In 1992 I went to Dubai for a 3 month DJ contract after which I decided to stay to run a record shop and a twice weekly show on 'Capital Radio' Abu Dhabi, introducing dance music to an ever expanding ex-pat community. Throughout my 4-year stay in Dubai, my trusted friends Kati, Keith and I held a monthly party, 'Strike', where 300 people from all walks of life and cultures enjoyed our beach/desert parties. A sponsorship deal from 'Diesel' was the icing on the cake.

I deciced to return to the UK in 1996 and fell upon Swag Records where I was intrigued by their genuine love of the music and people who appreciated it. I became a loyal customer, was invited to Wiggle and Heart & Soul and met hundreds of like-minded folk.I felt it was time to stay put. Since 1997 I have sparred alongside Paul 'Homer' Stubbs in running Swag. I became a director in 2000. In that time I have played on Groovetech & Interface Internet radio and I've been a guest on Dave Mothersole's Kiss FM show twice. I love radio and think its a great medium for our music, and feel there's loads of room for development here.

I set up the Kerfuffle parties in 1998 with Martyn Rochester and these were held monthly at 'The Plug' in Brixton for 3 years when we staged numerous memorable all-dayers. After a few successfull all-nighters at the Fortress Studios in Old Street we found a new home at Jamm in Brixton in 2004. I have played at many parties in London over the years including Wiggle, Subterrain @ The End, Space @ Bar Rhumba, Technology, Peg, Rumpus, Notting Hill Carnival and Positive Sounds in Brighton.

I have also ventured to Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, and Kosovo. In 2003 I played at the closing party, Superfreak with Mr C at Underground in Ibiza. Another visit to Ibiza saw me play at the Arthrob closing party at Sommy the following summer. 2005 began with a memorable Kerfuffle alldayer and my debut at Fabric in January. A very busy year with gigs in Cologne, Bulgaria & New York. Also on homeground in Brighton, Bognor & Wiggle @ Herbal and Faith after party. A re-booking at Fabric made my year. Recently I launched 'Funny Farm' with Nathan Coles, a new concept in mixing comedians and music. The next one should be in July.

My style of Djing is deep funky, techy house, music to dance to. I feel blessed that I have been able to make a living from doing what I love.
