In 1971, DJ Marz Faram was born in Tehran, the capitol city of Iran. As an Assyrian-Iranian, Marz's rich heritage heavily influenced his childhood, including his musical tastes and abilities. At the core of all Assyrian music is a beautiful polarity between dark drumbeats and light melodic notes, something that Marz strives to achieve in all of his mixes today. At the urging of his beloved grandfather, Marz also began classical piano training when he was just 4 years old. This taught him to develop an ear for the way in which music is structured. He now uses this ability to arrange his mixes by bass notes, giving his music an intriguing added element of complexity.
While vacationing in New York in 1997, Marz had his first opportunity to see Sasha and John Digweed together at Twilo. Hearing their music live astounded him, which almost goes without saying. However, he was truly impressed by the complete control they commanded over the masses, hundreds fusing into one, all being lead on a musical journey. Sasha and Digweed inspired Marz so much that he returned home and having never touched turntables before, spent the next 3 years teaching himself how to spin, but more importantly, how to connect with the crowd.
Marz has now spun in various well-known venues such as 1015 Folsom of San Francisco and has shared company with the likes of Dave Ralph and Hybrid.
Marz chooses not to confine himself to one particular style. Rather, he simply plays what sounds good, but always with a purpose, always seamless, and always promising to captivate.
