Biography of Matt Anaka
Music should be fun. That is the premise on which Matt Anaka operates, and using only a collection of breakbeat records, he's out to spread the word. With a combination of smart programming, relentless sampling, and an attention to details that has been clinically diagnosed as problematic in non-musical settings, he's earned a reputation for technically strong performances that are still unashamedly focused on the dance floor.
Starting his musical career firmly rooted in the rhythm section, Matt played the drums, bass and percussion in everything from thrash bands to pit orchestras. The fusion of technical skill and performance intensity garnered from developing in two very different musical environments has evolved with a move to DJing. Three years after picking it up, he's developed the versatility necessary to play a set suited to any space or time. Best known for building forward moving sets focused on a fusion of funky breaks with more aggressive sounds, Matt is just as happy to drop a set of horn laden down tempo or slow burning techy grooves, with potentials for a touch of drum and bass.
This year has seen frequent performances throughout the Right Hand Side of Canada, shows with some of Canada's best breaks DJs, shows with fancy international names, some international performances and the incorporation of home brewed tracks into the mix. All in an attempt to bring fun and blinding hangovers to everyone who crosses his path.
