Biography of Tractile

Always one step ahead of the game, the Minus sound just keeps on evolving. As if to emphasize this point TRACTILE have come up with a full debut release so exhilarating, so packed full of refreshing takes and ideas that they could have blown the doors off the traditional minimal sound for good.

If someone was asked what it would sound like if all of the most frightening, most exciting and sexiest scenes in cinema history were spliced together and merged with a robotic dance score, Tractile would surely be the reply. The name itself, coined by Adam Young and Joel Boychuk to represent their obsession with ‘seducing recorded sound and controlling the uncontrollable,' is a hybrid of the words ‘track’ and ‘tactile’ and perfectly defines their approach to music.

One part sparse, metallic techno, one part Detroit style electro-funk they deliver fast moving, action packed tunes that hurtle forward on several levels. Over the course of this EP, they usher in and out so many wickedly crafted riffs and glitches that it’s difficult to keep up. It’s the sound of a production partnership at the top of its game, effortlessly shifting from rough angular beats to flowing, floor-friendly grooves at the flick of a switch.

The five tracks featured on Silent Movie are the product of sessions that took place in and around their contribution to min2MAX (Unquenchable). After spending an abnormal amount of time in the studio, they ventured out for a few live shows in 2006, shaking dance floors across North America and Europe, impressing and exciting their audiences far beyond expectation in a quest to perfect this EP.

In that respect, it’s a job well done. Whether it’s the hypnotic acid attack of Silent Movie, the retro bass funk of To Go To, the pummeling beats and hi hat frenzy of Dynam, the lazy swagger and moody vocals of Stay Out or the dangerous decompression of Warning Light – there’s a feast of techno-hybrid energy on offer here. One thing’s for sure, with a swiftly-growing international fanbase of DJs and music fans alike, Tractile will be rocking the floor the world over this Winter.

Comment: Top minimal tracks but way too much use of the EQ's which gets a little bit annoying after a while.
