Biography of Gaskins
As a Blacksburg-based event promoter, website manager, college radio music director, producer since 1997, and club/radio DJ since 1999, Gaskins has amassed one of the most eclectic record collections around. This son of two multi-instrument bluegrass musicians has been booked for dozens of DJ gigs on the East Coast in New York City, Roanoke, Richmond, and Washington DC playing a variety of funky beats ranging from house and funky breaks, to hip hop and drum ‘n bass, to funk 45’s, lounge, and Brazilian flavors.
Gaskins has hosted exclusive DJ mixes on his Laundry Room Sessions Radio Show aired on WUVT 90.7 FM and Boogieburg.com from the likes of producers The Mooncakes Project (Belgium), Aldo Vanucci (Catskills Records, UK), Flevans (Tru Thoughts, UK), Mr and Mrs Swing (Shed Music, UK), and Revolvo (Tummy Touch, UK). Loads more exclusive Boogieburg mixes are in the works for this year including Mawglee (Bastard Jazz / Tru Thoughts), so stay tuned!
In recent years, his Blacksburg event promoting has lead to booking such artists DC's Kidgusto with releases on Rhythm & Culture and Funk Weapons; Katie Skills gracing the decks from London; Funk Weapons' always funky All Good Funk Alliance; Ohm Resistance drum ‘n bass production trio Accela; Tester, Sinista & Hazeus of Atlanta’s Trilogy Sound Crew; the mighty Chuck Street Players from DC; Archive of Ronin Sound in NYC; Electrolife’s Implicit out of Boston; and ragga jungle selector DJ Tasha. Gaskins’ events have been described as “one of the best shows of the tour!!.. always doing it proper. MUCH respect to the soundsystem”. If you haven’t checked out the monthly Fandango parties originally conceptualized by Gaskins and Skwash (of Binary Dialect), then you’re missing out. The Fandango nights combine 5 DJ’s on 5 turntables with live instruments such as electric bass, guitars, and percussion...a truly unique showcase of musicianship.

Gaskins’ “Boogieholic” mix, featuring 20 tracks in under an hour, is his first mix CD in over 2 years. Don’t miss the unveiling of his mashup (track 11 on the CD) of the Quantic Soul Orchestra’s heavy funk mix of Cappo’s “Learn To Be Strong” and 7 Samurai’s instrumental remix of The Dining Rooms’ recent dancefloor jazz hit “No Problems”.
