Biography of Markus Schulz
Markus Schulz's time is fast approaching. Just missing a slot in last years 'DJ Magazine's Top 100 djs of 2003' (119), Markus is winning over fans with his unique style of dark and brooding yet melodic DJ sets. With an upcoming mix cd and artist album in the works, Markus is poised to make an impressive leap into the top 100 DJ's this year.
Markus, a self-proclaimed studio geek, is infamous for surprising his fans with his reconstructions of well-known songs. 'Sometimes I like a song, but it just doesn't fit the flow of my DJ sets, so I have no problem spending a day or two in the studio reworking by editing, adding extra percussion and extra keyboard parts to a song to make it fit my style' says Markus.
When not in the studio reconstructing tracks for his DJ sets, Markus is busy working directly with record labels and artists who want to have that very particular sound that he is known for. Markus has had the opportunity to work with artists like Jewel, Oceanlab, Gabriel & Dresden presents Motorcycle, Karada, Telepopmusik, Fat Boy Slim, Miro, Book Of Love, Depeche Mode, Everything But The Girl, Madonna, Blue Amazon, and PQM. His remixes of 'Intuition' and 'Stand' by Jewel both hit #1 on the Billboard club chart. Harder, darker, Markus always delivers up a musically sensitive yet moody monster of a mix.
His productions have been released throughout the world on some of the most respected labels in the electronic dance music industry: Electronic Elements, Armada, Anjunabeats, Lost Language, Yoshitoshi, Global Underground, Renaissance, Bedrock, EVE, Tide and Skint just to name a few. His productions have graced the turntables and mix cds of top djs around the globe either under his own name, Markus Schulz, or his 'Himmel' and 'Dakota' monikers. Tracks such as 'Clear Blue', 'You Won't See Me Cry', 'Lost in Brixton', 'Swirl' and 'Celebrate Life' have been essentials in djs' record boxes worldwide
Markus's true love, however, is dj'ing. Since his infamous 7 year residency at The Works in Phoenix Arizona, where he developed his sound, he has toured the globe playing such notable clubs as El Divino in Ibiza, Spundae in San Francisco, The Guvernment in Toronto, and Prologue in London. He currently holds a residency at Space in Miami, playing to one of the most demanding crowds in the world. With international tour dates filling his calendar, Markus is quickly becoming one of the most sought after djs on the planet
His radio show 'The Global DJ Broadcast With Markus Schulz' can be heard every Sunday night from 1am-5am on WPYM 93.1fm and simulcast on www.etn.fm. The U.S. dance community has labeled his show as 'The most important outlet for the global music scene on American radio'. Hundreds of thousands of listeners tune in every week either on the radio or over the internet to hear Markus's live sets from his gigs around the globe and mixes from his superstar dj guests.
