Biography of DJ Slipstream

Slipstream was introduced to the club/rave scene at the age of 21. Never had he been to such a social gathering that promoted unity and understanding through music. Shortly thereafter, he was introduced to Nougi Aramburo (DJ Nugz) who introduced him to breakbeat. Slipstream looked on as Nougi sculpted songs into one seamless mix. The next thing he knew, he was on the turntables learning how to master beat matching, cueing, and all the other elements to producing a good mix.

Slipstream had no records, no equipment, and no idea what genre to spin, but Nougi continued to support his interest in DJing. Leaving Nougi's house one day, he suggested that he pick up a CD called “LTJ Bukem Mixmag Live.” It was then that he was exposed to the world of jungle/drum n’ bass and was forever hooked.

Slipstream began to play around with Jungle, first jump-up, then tech step, but after one eventful day, he found his direction. He watched as LTJ Bukem, MC Conrad and Blame took to the stage for the first time at the Progression Sessions Tour in Greensboro, North Carolina. This sub-genre, called atmospheric expressed emotion and moved him on a spiritual level like no other form of drum n’ bass. The next day Slipstream began investing in atmospheric tracks. Other artists who influenced him include Fabio, Grooverider, Blame, Slipmaster J, Goldie, Dara, and DB.

After a few years of off-and-on practice, acquiring equipment and records, Slipstream began his DJ career from a booking, thanks to Hotwax Harley, who was the resident DJ at Club Gotham and founder of Radiance-the triangle’s longest and most respected underground weekly.

Slipstream has pushed the Atmospheric Drum n’ Bass sound in North Carolina for about 10 years. Now he combines liquid funk with heaping spoonful of atmospherics.

He has played at events with the likes of Jeffee, Dara, Odi, Pollen, DJ Dan, Max Graham, Icey, Micro, Mathematics (Roy Dank & Blueline), LTJ Bukem, MC Conrad, Nookie and Makoto.
