Biography of Monolake

Robert Henke, born in 1969 in Munich. I was always fascinated by technology, wanted to become an engineer. Some day I discovered Oxygene by Jean Michel Jarre and I could not stop listen to it again and again. I did stupid jobs after school and finally had enough money to buy a Roland Juno-6 which allowed me to create strange electronic sound collages and I started played in a bad gothic band.

In 1990 I moved to Berlin. City of techno and of the Elektronische Studio der Technischen Universität. Computer music during daytime. Dancing at night.

I started making electronic music with Gerhard Behles and began to study sound engineering at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in Potsdam Babelsberg, where I made sound installations and film soundtracks.

One of my installations lead to my first CD Piercing Music. One of the tracks of Gerhard and me was released on Chain Reaction and we named the project

m o n o l a k e

Later I started the imbalance computer music label while Gerhard founded the software company Ableton to create music software and I joined the team.

Monolake became a Robert Henke solo project with occasional support by friends, like Torsten 'T++' Pröfrock who added a new note to the sonic world of monolake on the album Polygon_Cities in 2004 and contributes to the Atlantic Waves network project.

My music is about the exploration of sound, rhythm and structure, about the interaction between a sonic event and the space in which it happens. During the years monolake got more focused on music for the dancefloor while I produce drones, electroacoustic soundscapes and media installations under my real name.

Comment: i heart monolake. + if you know what's good for you, so
should you. it's more driving + dance floor oriented than his
set from mutek 2003 but amazing nonetheless. as already noted,
it has some twisted effects which will make your head spin +
leave you wondering what'll come next. this performance is as
dark + enlightening as ever.

the ONLY downside to this set was that the recording levels are
a little low + quiet instead of the usual sternum throbbing
goodness that i've come to expect + love from one of my favourites.

enjoy!

Comment: This live set has got the elements as it never has any parts which make u feel bored. I think it is mixed via ableton software which is a new innovation in the world of electrtonic music. I think it definately has an edge to it that makes it stand out in its own right. I would recommend this live set to anyone one who wants to hear innovative Techno Music.

Comment: absolutly recommendable techhouse set.sometimes suprising, sometimes just kicking.sounds a bit like an old narod niki set from mutek festival, but is less minimal,so very maximal related on the effects used by monlake.
thank you, dear poster for this great piece of music!!!!!

Comment: Having never heard Monolake before, I figure I'd try this out. Wasn't really my thing. I found a few sections interesting, but overall it seemed rather samey.

Comment: Wow, I am really surprised. This liveset is quite different to his usual stuff. It's very club-orientated and interesting but I prefer the other Liveset @ Mutek 2003.

Comment: I am facinated of Momolake- I had seem him live in Munich. He makes experinces with his music like a child who play.
But to the download I had to say something. I´ve got 7,5 MB but the filesize said 69,70 MB- I believe I got the wrong.
But it´s a warmup- lol

Comment: Monolake sets usually feature sounds you won't have heard elsewhere, and are put together by someone who has a deep understanding of electronic music. I certainly wasn't disappointed with this journey, and found the sound quality to be very good too.
