Biography of Dennis Rodgers
Music has always been a big part of Dennis Rodgers' life. Always one to actively collect whatever sort of music he was feeling at the moment, he admits in his earlier years that electronic dance music was not his first love. and it wasn't until he reluctantly fell upon house music in a big New York City nightclub four years ago that suddenly changed things around for him. And within that same week he made an investment in turntables! During the next few years he developed his sound out of the infamous after hour sessions with the rest of the 112 Crew (Bill Patrick, Matt Licata and Tom Amoroso).
From these sessions his talent was discovered and the bookings began to roll in. Dennis has come up quickly in New York city, showing off his diversity by being able to blend his sound in any quality environment playing along side noteworthy talent such as: Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells, James Zabiela, Marco Carola, Funk D'Void, Grant Dell, Casa del Sol, Jay Tripwire, Mauro Picotto, Danilo Vigorito, Chris Liebing and many others. Dennis and the 112 Crew hold residencies at Fluid in Philadelphia, a monthly at one of New York City's truly underground clubs, Arc with Danny Howells. And Dennis and the 112 have just recently been awarded their own featured party called 'Get Some' in the main room at Arc on a monthly basis. Among some of the highlights of his young career, Dennis has already had the opportunity to take his unique sound and skills to various clubs in Chicago (Vice), Kansas City (Kabal), St. Louis (Lo), at this year's past Winter Music Conference in Miami (Lime Bar). His most memorable highlight to date was to be able to play for his hometown crowd with the rest of the 112 Crew recently at Arc. He also made his debut in Los Angeles (October 2003) and was the first of the 112 Crew to stamp their sound in the West Coast.
Dennis has an intense love and respect for the music he buys and the ability to convey emotion through it and become more intimate with the crowd than most of his counterparts. His sets can range from the deepest of house to the hardest techno while keeping it interesting and dynamic for the crowds on the dancefloor as well as for himself. He's constantly on the hunt for fresh and new sounds, Dennis has created a bit of an obsession for hunting out new music on a weekly basis and with musical influences ranging from house gurus such as Danny Tenaglia and Terry Francis to techno pioneer Richie Hawtin - it's evident that he is one always seeking ways to push his sound forward.
Dennis has already turned his natural gift for music into the studio, joining partners Hisham Samawi and Brendan Benke under the production moniker 'The Dirty Gringos'. Their first project entitled 'Cowbell' received rave reviews and has been played by Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells and Lee Burridge. In addition to the success of their debut track it was also voted the #2 Best New Track of the Winter Music Conference (Miami) in 2003 by URB Magazine. Future production plans include three other tracks that they are shopping at the moment and are currently in steady rotation with DJ's Three, Tyler Stadius, Paulo Mojo and many others.
On the heels of all of this success, Dennis looks forward to the future, as he continues to contribute not only to the underground dance music scene in New York but also to other communities all over the world. With such a huge love and passion for music he looks forward to sharing it with anyone with an open mind and ear to listen. Behind the decks and onto the dancefloor, this is a rising star to look out for!
