Biography of Crackhaus

Having originally met in 1999, Stephen Beaupre and Scott Monteith have been involved in various creative projects, begining the same year with the development of the (now defunked) Covert Ops multimedia collective, which engaged in various event/installation projects in and around the Montreal area, focusing on real time audio and video performance, and the development of new interfaces merging these two mediums.

Inspired by the micro sampling work of fellow Montrealer Akufen (Marc Leclair), and international luminaries such as Matthew Herbert, Monteith and Beaupre began the Crackhaus project in the interest of further exploring the use of unconventional sound sources (found sounds) within the confines of traditional house and techno, and to inject their increasingly grown up lives with some much needed child like fun.

The Crackhaus project made its debut as part of the 'Montreal Smoked Meat' CD compilation, released on Force Inc Music Works in March 2002. In 2003, they released their first album on Onitor Records, and in 2004 came their follow-up on Mutek_Rec.

Comment: Oh, great set. Love this one. Crazy chugging quirkiness--a bit of house, a bit of tech, funky sounds. Highly highly recommended. Get it now.

Comment: Very original, you never know what they will throw at you next, glitchy, deep, minimal, here comes the dance floor! It flows very nicely from start to end, very good mix! Wish I could've seen them last year! Way to go boys!

Comment: This is a great set, just over an hour and it has a little something for everyone. I'm always amazed at the realm of sound these guys cover in such a short period of time. You're always guessing, you're always surprised, and you're always satisfied. Guess that's why I like them, download it!

Comment: Crackhaus is somewhat of an experimental thing for beaupre and monteith, that while it will never achieve perfection, will always provide interesting and entertaining music.
A lot of ground is covered in this set, and it is never dull
