Biography of Paul Langley
I started Djing in 1985 playing Hip-Hop / Soul and mixed my way into the DMC mixing championships in 88. I joined a Hip-Hop group called “Sylk Kut” in 88 and played a mini UK tour with De La Soul / Sugar Bear. In late 88 I started buying House and moved into the new Acid House scene. I finally got into Techno in 93 after going to a “LOST” party, this was a major turning point for me musically.
I co-ran a weekly club night in Leicester square, London in 94 called “Iconelastic” also in this year I had a weekly radio show on London’s infamous “Chillin FM 102.9. I have also guested on various other radio show’s inc www.netmix.com & www.dj-sets.com .
In 1997 I hooked up with DJ Rush after he heard a mix tape I gave him and then Rush got myself booked to play Berlin’s Love Parade and various other gigs in Germany that year. 1997 was also the year I invested in buying my first pieces of studio equipment. By 1998 I had released my first couple EP’s one on Rush’s Kne’Deep and the other on Off the Wall. Following on from these releases I also released on Justin Berkovi’s Predicaments label as a split EP with Rush and other labels such as High Octane / 4 X 4 / Tonewrecker / Audio Textures / Pro-Jex / Dark House Music / Morpheus / Thrill. I am currently working on a project with Jamie Bissmire (Space djz / Bandulu) which’ll be out in May 2004.
I started my Jackstar label in 2001 because I thought with the loss of UC and Jasper Stone records I thought there needs to be a new edge to that style of Chicago hard funk music so I got in touch with DJ Bam Bam and we put together the first release. The label in on it’s 8th release and so far people seem to be into the music so I’m gonna keep that baby going.
I have been kept busy with my djing through Rush’s Berlin based booking agency and have been playing all over Europe and Japan and this year I played in Brazil which was amazing. Next year I’m gonna set up another Jackstar mini tour in Europe as the last one with Urban / DJ MH was such a success.
