Biography of Gareth Wyn

Gareth Wyn is taking clubland by storm. His upbeat, driving sets are setting dance floors alight worldwide. Mixmag Future Hero, Cream Ibiza Resident 2004 & 2005 - he's part of the nu breed, and his unique ability to read and interact with the crowd is fast earning him a reputation as one of the scene's rising stars.

IT BEGAN IN…Ibiza 1996. A visit to Cream at Amnesia for a live Essential Mix opened his ears to house music. He returned to the UK, bought some decks, ordered Pete Tong's set from the live Radio One broadcast, and hasn't looked back.

After relocating to Cardiff, Gareth soon started guesting at bars and student parties all over the Welsh capital and hosting a weekly Friday night dance show on student station Xpress Radio. In 1997 Gareth began running regular coach trips to Cream in Liverpool from Cardiff, to take in the likes of Nick Warren, Paul Oakenfold and Tall Paul in the infamous Courtyard:

'The trips to Cream fuelled my passion for the scene and really influenced my musical taste. I loved the main room sounds these DJ's played, and the atmosphere their music created, they definitely motivated me to pursue things more seriously. This makes the fact that I now DJ regularly at Cream in Liverpool even more special'

SPIN ‘EM EDDY...In 1999, due to the distinct lack of dance nights in Cardiff, Gareth decided to up the tempo. Spin 'Em Eddy was born and he proceeded to organise, promote and DJ at the St David's Day Dance Party, held in the impressive Great Hall at Cardiff Students' Union. The event featuring Judge Jules sold out to a capacity crowd of 2'000 people in less than two weeks.

This paved the way for the following five years. Gareth has promoted over 50 Spin 'Em Eddy nights in Cardiff, Bristol, Worcester and London and hosted tours with Serious, Slinky, Cream, the Essential Selection and Golden. Regular guests included Judge Jules, Pete Tong, Anne Savage, Fergie, Carl Cox, Yousef, The Stanton Warriors and Grooverider. As well as promoting high profile events, Gareth span at all of them playing the peak-time, main room sets that developed his trademark ability to relate with the crowd:

'The punters are the most important people in any club. I always try to interact with and read the crowd as much as I can, and really use this to build the atmosphere. There is no better feeling than taking the roof off a main room, and giving the crowd exactly what they want'

THE BREAK...In April 2002, Gareth entered the ultimate DJ competition, Muzik Magazine's search for a new Cream resident, the prize - a year's residency with Cream. Along with over 1000 other entrants, Gareth submitted a mix to Muzik showcasing his DJ talents. He was short listed to the last 50, and asked to play in one of ten regional UK heats. After appearing in the London spin-off, Gareth was invited to DJ in the final at Cream in Liverpool, August 2002.

The judging panel consisted of representatives from Cream, Muzik Magazine and Galaxy Radio. After rocking Cream to its foundations with his dirty, driving trance grooves, Gareth was awarded second place. This was the start of Gareth's amazing relationship with the Liverpool club that has seen him fast become a favourite with Cream's army of die hard fans. Over the last three years Gareth has gone on to play regularly for Cream across the UK, Europe and worldwide.

RADIO...Gareth presented a weekly dance show on Cardiff student station Xpress Radio for three years. His Friday night show was the stations' leading specialist output, and broadcast to a potential 250,000 listeners across Wales and the West.

Gareth was recognised as having the best student dance show in the country at the Radio One National Student Radio Awards 2001. A finalist in the Best Specialist Show category, he attended the awards ceremony at the Alexander Palace. Gareth also received the Cardiff University Media Award 2001, judged by Galaxy 101 in recognition of his weekly dance music show.

2004...Kicked off big time for Gareth Wyn. Mixmag recognised Gareth as a Future Hero, predicting ‘big things' and featured him several times in the Magazine. Due to the fantastic response to Gareth in the UK, he was invited to take up a prestigious summer residency for Cream at Amnesia, Ibiza alongside fellow residents Tiesto and Paul van Dyk. Gareth kicked things off in Ibiza on July 8th 2004, spinning an extended three-hour set in the main room before the World's No 1 DJ Tiesto. During the summer Gareth was invited by Tiesto to spin at his album signing in Ibiza, and recognised as one of the Best Breakthrough DJs at the Mixmag Ibiza Dance Awards. Gareth also featured on Galaxy Radio, Ministry of Sound Radio and Radio One, rocked Creamfields to its foundations and launched his own website.

2005...Was a real breakthrough 12 months for Gareth, spent clocking up the air miles. He returned to Ibiza with Cream for the second consecutive year as bi-weekly resident at the mighty Amnesia alongside Tiesto and Paul van Dyk.

“Cream Ibiza has been an amazing experience, playing alongside the best DJ's in the world, at arguably the best club in the world. I'm a main room DJ, and there is no better main room than Cream at Amnesia. It's a fantastic residency to have, and I've loved every minute.”

Gareth has also toured worldwide, headlining massive Cream shows in Jakarta, Indonesia and Manila in the Philippines. Back in the UK, he has traveled the length and breadth of the UK, taking in Northern and Southern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and right across England, guesting at the nation's hottest clubs. Let's not forget Creamfields Liverpool, where Gareth debuted in the awesome 8,000 capacity Cream main arena. He's also featured as a guest presenter on Ministry of Sound radio, something that is set to develop even more in 2006, and starred in Mixmag, DJ Mag and Pacha Magazine. His London promotion Spin ‘Em Eddy HOUSE RULES has also exploded - London's hottest underground party has just celebrated 12 months in the capital, packing out their south London club every time.

2006...Things could not be any hotter for Gareth Wyn at the moment. With new production work in the pipeline and a packed 2006 diary, keep your eyes on the booth and ears to the speaker, because you are going to be hearing a great deal more from this young DJ very soon...

Comment: Some really good stuff. The mixing is impecable and the track selection is perfect. I especially love the 2nd and 3rd tracks. He mixes both of them really well and the way he plays around with the vocalist's voice in the 3rd track is awesome!!!!! The other tracks are just as good.
