Biography of Akufen

Since 1999, Akufen (Montreal's Marc Leclair) has been amassing a thick stockpile of 12' releases for labels like Perlon, Background, Traum, Oral, Trapez, and Force Inc. With influences ranging from Bootsy to Mancini to Moroder to Reich, Leclair's productions veer from challenging experimental techno to pop-oriented micro-house. For most of the tracks on 2002's My Way, his first full-length album for Force Inc., Leclair employed a technique he referred to as 'microsampling.' Leclair would spend hours of each morning recording material from AM/FM dials and a shortwave, and he would then use those recordings as fodder for his productions, splicing seconds into minute fragments (consisting of voices, song snips, acoustic guitar flicks, and all sorts of unidentifiable moments) and applying them to danceable, hook-heavy house tracks. The anticipation for the album was increased significantly by a limited release of the album's feature cut, 'Deck the House,' a dazzling crazy-quilt of short-attention-span house dementia. Leclair has also recorded as Anna Kaufen and Nekufa.

Comment: I was at this gig, and it sounds alot different when I listen to it now, probably due to the awful sound system in Traffic at the time.Anyway starts off really chirpy and glitchy but grows very dark, deep, chuggy, tribal and minimal,a very interesting set I have to say. If you like glitch/minimal house i definetly recommend it.

Comment: As usual akufen never disapponits. Many years ago as a 15 year old candy kid, glitchy sounds were unappealing 2 me but now that im older and wiser, i realize just how sick and funky this shit can get. 4 the jackers.

Comment: Very nice, I would have given this a 9, but there were a few points where a had to fast forward justa bit cause the sound was too annoying. But other times it was Str8 Jackin! Very nice mix!!

Comment: some truly amazing tracks can be heard in this set. it's funk and it's minimal, and it's weird, and of course groovy, but at times it goes perhaps too deep. well, when listening at home I don't mind going as deep as it can go, but it must have been some experience at the party. akufen rocks, as always!

Comment: nice set with glitchy elements and perlon-like sounds. the audio-track is much to low,but i think with wavelab or any other wave editor you will be able to change the volume.
i would recommend this set to friends of minimal electronics and clicking techno.
