Biography of Gabriel Palomo
Palomo's passion for electronic music spans the history of his deep roots in rhythm, dance and the arts. Playing the drums since the late 70's and spinning vinyl since the early 80's, he has evolved through the journeys of early New York hip hop, break beats, early Italian Disco, German and Detroit electro / techno to Chicago's acid, house and industrial sounds.
Driven by technology of the past, present and future, he established Zuvuya Recordings and launched the Galactic Tone series. Joining forces with artists Tim Xavier, Lee Chameleon, Soul-Tek, Matt Nee, Nathaniel Shreve and DeeCoy. Zuvuya has been well received for its combination of driven techno, electro and industrial qualities.
Zuvuya's Lunar EP was honored as a finalist in the dance / electronic category of the International Songwriting Competition, spun by many International DJ's like Dave Clarke, Felix Da Housecat and Tommie Sunshine, licensed by Mauro Piccotto and DJ Hell for their most recent CD mixes on Meganite and Time Warp, and received radio play in the UK, Germany, and XM Satellite Radio. Lunar and the follow-up release Electric Phaze were both praised with a 5-star review in Germany's De:Bug magazine.
Remix projects from Palomo include Tim Xavier's 773tekno03 “AzeeeO EP”, Greg Kobe's “Feel the Funk EP” for Tim Baker's Elephanthaus Records and Jeff Storms “Release 1 EP” on Edensonic Records. Palomo's earlier releases include the sounds of “Oscuro” on Fresca Recordings and “Trouble One” on Mindshift Records.
When out of the studio, and on the decks, preferably 3, Palomo's drive, skills and dedication have landed him DJ sessions at every major club in Chicago, events across the U.S., festivals and club appearances throughout the world - Mexico, Germany, Belgium, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
His pre-teen style war beat street days as a breaker and graffiti writer a.k.a. Sez naturally led him to become a DJ, which he picked up easily after years of playing the drums since the early age of six. In the early 80's he discovered Kraftwerk and Afrika Bambaataa. Taking their musical messages to heart, Palomo became a renegade of funk, seeking the perfect beats, which led him to the early Detroit techno scene and Chicago's acid house craze.
In the early 90's, he was introduced to the Midwest raves and began organizing some of the craziest warehouse-loft parties Chicago has ever known. He continued into the 21 st century with higher-profile events including the Conjugate Projekt's unprecedented traveling subway party, 773 Tekno Saturdays, In Your System! events, and now a monthly Zuvuya residency at Tini Martini.
In addition to continuing the Galactic Tone Series releases, Gabriel has many plans in the works for 2007 including: the launch of Zuvuya and Provex Digital MP3 series exclusively distributed by GrooveSource and a Zuvuya Recordings worldwide tour, making noise and music for the masses.
