Biography of James Lauer with Diz and Derric Carter
Biography:
James Lauer spins a wide range of underground house and techno and enjoys music that is deep, dark and funky. As a DJ, James works extremely hard to keep his sound as fresh and diverse as possible and his efforts have consistently earned him bookings at top locations in Chicago (where he currently calls home) as well as at larger clubs in locations around the world. He currently hosts the widely acclaimed Diversified Portfolio Radio Show every Wednesday night on Chicago's WNUR 89.3FM and features an impressive lineup of special guests. Started in 2002 on the station recognized as one of the largest alternatives to mainstream corporate radio in the country, the show has received international recognition and James has recently found his mixes re-broadcast and featured on radio stations around the globe from Toronto to Tokyo to London.
Outside of the radio, James keeps a busy DJ schedule in Chicago and around the country (see full schedule). Aimed at moving people both inside and out, his live mixes are able to seamlessly incorporate elements of various musical styles without ever losing focus of what James considers the three basic essentials of any good rhythm - musicality, emotionality and subtlety. From sexy percussive deep house to dark and dirty tribal rhythms, the musical environment he strives to create is one where even the most critical listeners will find something that catches their ear.
As a producer, James is currently working on a number of independent projects involving new software production techniques in addition to remixing and creating his own tracks. His background in music and engineering as well as his experience working in the technology field have helped him lay the foundations for success in the production realm. As with his DJing, Jame's production style is somewhat unique; at the end of the night he hopes you will have found some slightly less obvious grooves in his music.
