Biography of Christine Moritz
Since making her club debut at the Buzz event at Nation in 2001, Christine Moritz has been intriguing Washington, D.C. clubgoers with her downtempo sound.
Her November 2002 opening set for Thievery Corporation at the 9:30 Club caught the ear of Thievery's Eric Hilton, leading to a highly-coveted yearlong residency at the Eighteenth Street Lounge. She has also held residencies at Bossa, Gazuza, the outdoor summer event Air (at the invitation of 2003 DMC champion DJ Enferno), and IndeBleu. Christine has played with such artists as UNKLE, Jazzanova, Zero 7, Gotan Project, and Groove Armada, and has graced the decks in London, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Diego as well as at numerous D.C.-area venues.
In addition to her club gigs, Christine continues to host the Monday night radio show 'Variety Is the Spice of Life,' which has run since 1998 on the University of Maryland's WMUC. She began doing radio in 1992-93 at the radio stations of Emory University and Duke University.
Christine has been featured in such publications as the Washington Post and the Washington City Paper, and was nominated for a Wammie (Washington Area Music Association Award) in the Electronica DJ category in 2003 and 2005.
A talented music journalist, Christine was editor in chief of the magazine Innerloop from February 2004 until it ceased publication in September 2004. (Launched in 2002, Innerloop focused on dance music in D.C. and beyond.) Since then, Christine's interview of Quantic has appeared on the Ubiquity label's website, and more recently she has written for the San Diego-based downtempo magazine RE:UP.
