Benjamin Brunn, born in 1977, grew up half in the industrial town of Chemnitz and half in the nearby countryside spending most of the time in the woods and cycling across the fields and around the neighbouring villages together with his younger brother. His early exposure to music by listening to his mother playing the piano and later taking piano lessons himself turned into an unremitting interest in electronic music when he discovered the regular techno parties at VOXXX in Chemnitz in 1995. While his friends indulged in rock music, Benjamin enjoyed dancing to night-long DJ-sets with music by the heroes from Detroit. He did not know who they were and where they came from, alone the music was important and fascinating.
In 1996 he started writing his own music with a KORG X3 workstation and two years later his first tracks were released to the public by Hardwax in Dresden. It was only a very small series of CDs called Fahrstuhlmusik', but it caused him contact with Lowtec of United States of Mars and Mathias Schaffhäuser of Ware-Records. On those labels his first vinyl records appeared in 2000. In the same year he moved to England where he collaborated with Dave Wheels, formerly of Higher Intelligence Agency. He has been one of the stalwart artists on Binemusic since 2004. In 2008 his collaborations with Move D found a home at Smallville in Hamburg, where Benjamin now lives.
The majority of his music is based on the sound of the Nord Modular, a virtual-modular synthesizer that has accompanied him since 1999. Apart from his occupation as a structural engineer and his musical output, Benjamin Brunn is a passionate photographer. Some of his photographic works can be seen on Binemusic record sleeves.
